Here’s a wonderful song by saw player John King. Mr. King was a missionary who had a full life, sharing his faith around the world. He was an excellent saw player and participated in the New York City Saw Festival in 2009. There are quite a few videos of him playing the saw, but I like this one in particular because of the hymn. It’s a great song for the saw.
“Meeting In The Air” is a classic pentecostal hymn written by I. G. Martin at the beginning of the 20th century. It has been recorded by quite a few people, including the Carter Family. It has a lively melody and is often performed with key changes in the middle to highlight the notion of everyone “meeting in the air.” You can hear the key change in Mr. King’s version.
The Carter family never played with a saw as far as I know, but they liked the song too.
The Meeting in the Air
You have heard of little Moses in the bull rush
You have heard of fearless David and his sling
You have heard the story told of dreaming Joseph
And of Jonah and the whale you often sing
There is going to be a meeting in the air
In that sweet sweet by and by
I am going to meet you meet you over there
In that home beyond the sky
The singing you will hear never heard by mortals ears
Will be glorious I do declare
And God’s own son will be the leading one
At that meeting in the air
There are many many others through the Bible
I should like to meet them all I do declare
By and by the lord will surely let us meet them
At that meeting in the air
